A Long Obedience in the Same Direction: Discipleship in an Instant Society
$3.22
First published 20 years ago, this book is viewed by many as a classic. Peterson uses the Songs of Ascent (Psalms 120-134), a cycle of songs sung by Jewish pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem to worship, as a wonderful parallel to the modern (and timeless) Christian pilgrimage. Each chapter is a meditation on one of the songs, and Peterson draws out the ways each of them shows us an aspect of the Christian faith (repentance, providence, worship) and how they relate to each other. He highlights discipleship basics like worship, service, joy, humility, community, happiness and blessing, offering encouragement for growing in Christian belief and practice. May be difficult for a new believer to understand, but works well for group discussion for those who are more mature.

A Tale of Three Kings: A Study in Brokenness (Chinese/English)
$2.93

In this modern classic Gene Edwards contrasts the leadership styles and moral fiber of three Old Testament kings: Saul, David, and Absalom. Though simply written, the message is profound, dealing with the concepts of authority and submission, brokenness and woundedness in the lives of the three kings. Woundedness seeks swift justice; brokenness seeks God's mercy. Woundedness looks for ways to save face; brokenness looks for God's face, even in a cave. Woundedness wants to correct others by taking action against them; brokenness wants to be corrected by God. Woundedness just leads to more woundedness; bokenness leads to healing. Especially good for those in positions of church leadership, every Christian will be challenged to examine himself honestly to see what is in his own heart.

Disappointment with God
$3.81
Is God unfair? Is He silent? Is He hidden? In this profoundly personal book which deals with the emotional/spiritual side of “the problem of pain”, these questions are answered with clarity, richness, and biblical certainty. Using a scriptural foundation and particularly the life experience of Job, Philip Yancey points to the odd disparity between our concept of God and the realities of life. Disappointment with God makes a compelling case for reconciling the existence of an all-good and all-powerful God with a broken world. The author takes us beyond the things that make for disillusionment to a deeper faith, a certitude of God's love, and a thirst to reach not just for what God gives, but for who He is. Learn More

Pictorial Pilgrim's Progress
$3.51

The Pilgrim's Progress has inspired readers for over three centuries. It is one of the best-loved and most widely read books in English literature and is a classic of the heroic Puritan tradition and a founding text in the development of the English novel. The story of Christian, whose pilgrimage takes him through the Slough of Despond, Vanity Fair, and the Delectable Mountains, is full of danger and adventure. Together with his trusty companions, Faithful and Hopeful, he encounters many enemies--the foul fiend Apollyon, Judge Hategood, Giant Despair of Doubting Castle--before finally arriving at the Celestial City. Bunyan's own experience of religious persecution informs his story, and its qualities of psychological realism, and the beauty and simplicity of his prose combine to create a book whose appeal is universal.
